This Is Really Important

I've made a recent discovery. Compliments. Sure, everyone knows about them, but do you know the importance of them? No, I'm not talking, "Hey girl, you're hot!" I'm talking about complimenting people on the things they do, not how they look. Encouragement I guess.

Today, for instance, someone pointed something I've been doing well out to me, and it just made me feel so good and appreciated. Doesn't everyone love that feeling? Don't we all love to get recognition for what we do well? Which is exactly why we should do that with other people. Magnify their good qualities. Pat them on the back when they do well. Because sometimes people need that, and sometimes it helps them to keep moving forward, and encourages their spirit.

One of the biggest things I've noticed when it comes to compliments is that people tend to be more grateful when you compliment them on their mannerisms, or their good qualities, and not so much their looks. Now I'm not saying you shouldn't compliment people on their looks, because everyone likes to hear that they look good! Who doesn't? I'm just saying that compliments about your heart sink in much more than compliments about the shirt you're wearing.

People love to hear when they're doing something right, and there are way too many people in  this world who tell everyone what they're doing wrong. Don't remind people of their faults, encourage their victories.

Now think about how good it feels to be complimented. It feels pretty good doesn't it? Encouragement can be some of the best medicine for an aching heart. Now, still thinking about that feeling, realize something. YOU can GIVE that feeling. You can give people that moment of joy. So when you receive a compliment? Pass one on. Make it your personal goal. Encourage and be encouraged, because life is too short to focus on flaws. We're all aware we have flaws, but if we're constantly being reminded of them, how are we supposed to feel saved by grace? I know people say words can't hurt, and we shouldn't care what other people say, but it's easier said than done. And I think we all know that. So use your words to build each other up.

And encouragement doesn't just come through compliments, just being kind to someone can be encouraging.

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32

          All people have faults, all people have flaws, but that's not what we should be focused on. We should be focused on loving unconditionally, encouraging often, being kind always, and building each other up. I guess my thought for today is;

Be kind, be encouraging, be the light in someone's darkness.

A Random Mix of Thoughts

(I took the two bottom ones at camp)

Hi. I don't normally do introductions, but I felt like it. Mainly because I don't know where to start. I guess it's hard to know where to start, when you're not fully sure what you want to say in the first place.

Life is strange right now. There are a lot of things going on right now. A lot of changes being made. It's confusing to a certain degree, but there's definitely a sense of peace somewhere in me right now. I don't know exactly where it's coming from, but it's there.

I've kind of come to realize that life is constantly going to change. My life hasn't stopped changing since I was born. That's just the way life is. No matter what I do, life will continually change. It's inevitable.

I don't really have any big summer plans this year. Then again, I never do. The summer just comes and goes and I'm usually sunburned and still thrilled from all the adventures I've just experienced.

Which brings me to another subject. So many of us seem to believe that we can only experience adventure in crazy situations. Adventures in jungles of South America, in backpacking through Europe, or on African safaris. The thing is, adventure is everywhere. Life is an adventure, and if you're not finding adventure in you're life? You're probably looking in the wrong places. Or looking for something big and crazy, when a perfectly good adventure is sitting right in front of your face. Seeking adventure is kind of scary for me, because I'm not very brave, but not doing things because you're scared can really cause you to miss out. So I think this summer I just want an adventure. Something fun, something life changing, something remarkable.

Oh, How I Miss Being Little!

I spent the day with my cousins today. The cousins I grew up with. I've hung out around them since I was just a lil' munchkin. Spending the day with them really made me think about how much I miss being little. When everything was an adventure and I could be put in awe by the simplest things.

Sometimes, not only today, I just want to be little again. I just want to be five, so that I can color and run and play. I want to be wowed by things that are so ordinary to me now.

If I could go back and tell little me one thing, it would be to never take any moment for granted. Because those years, the younger years, are some of the best you get. Sure, being a teenager is great in some ways, but being a kid is pretty special, and it only happens once. The memories I have from my younger years are amazing, and I couldn't have asked for better people to be surrounded by. It wasn't perfect, but being a kid was pretty fantastic!

My Favorite Songs At The Moment

Hey there!

So, because I had no other ideas of what to post, I figured I'd just share some songs with you. Some I really, really like right now.

Sorry, I'm Forgetful

(just in case you didn't remember
what I look like without glasses)
So I totally forgot but sometimes, on my old blogs, after my birthday I'd do a random facts post and base it off of the age I am (i.e. 14 facts about me, 13, etc.) Anywho, so I meant to do that this year, but I'm forgetful, I was busy the week of my birthday, and all that good stuff.

So I shall do it now, a little over two weeks after my fifteenth birthday! (And no, Taylor Swift's song hasn't really applied to my life yet).

                            15 FACTS ABOUT ME!

  • My favorite colors are purple and yellow. (Not very interesting, I apologize)
  • I've always wanted to visit Ireland!
  • I'm pigeon toed. Translation: one or both of my feet is/are turned inward, thus I can't walk or run in a straight fashion.
  •  I've been blogging for just about five years now
  • I like all vegetables. Or at least all of the ones I've tried.
  • I've known how to cook since I was around six or seven years old. Not like, Thanksgiving dinner, but ya know, I was pretty good at toast ;)
  •  I really like being outside. Always have, probably always will.
  • I have this weird obsession with any type of writing device. Particularly Sharpies.
  • I used to, and still sometimes, eat corn out of a can, cold, for lunch. Also, cold Chinese food for breakfast.
  • I love coffee, tea, cocoa. Any warm drink really.
  • I type really, really fast. I don't type how you're supposed to (fingers on asdf jkl; and go from there), I just somehow memorized where the letters are.
  • For some unknown reason, I love watching shows about the emergency room.
  • I love owls. Anything owls.
  • My first name means "island of the ships." Or something like that.
  • If I ever end up married, I would love to have a lot of kids.
So, there ya have it! Fifteen facts about me. Don't ask me why I didn't number this list, I just didn't. Hope you learned something new! :)

P.s. The first picture in the collagey thing, was taken roughly eight months before I started blogging. I was so little!

That Thing I Realized in Walmart

Yesterday, I was walking through Walmart. Now, I never in a million years thought that I'd ever learn something while walking through WALMART of all places, but I did.

I was walking through Walmart, and for some reason had such a happy feeling, a loving feeling. I was grinning from ear to ear and couldn't stop. People were giving me weird looks, but everywhere I went in the store, I felt love for everyone I saw. My initial thought was, "This is it! This is how Jesus must've felt here on earth! Love for everyone!" That feeling lasted about ten minutes until I started looking into the eyes of the people I passed by. The phrase, "The eyes are the windows to the soul," is so true, and looking at all of those people I felt I could see right into them. And 6 times out of 10, all I could see was hurt. Sometimes, when you look at people, it almost seems like you can literally feel their pain.

I learned a lesson yesterday. That you can't take your focus off of your love for people, because then you'll start to get weighed down by their problems. I'm not saying I think we need to overlook the hurts in peoples lives. I guess I'm just saying that we should focus on loving them first, because love can do some pretty spectacular things. And sometimes I think love can take that hurt right out of people's souls, once Jesus has been revealed to them.

It was just interesting and I thought I'd share.

                                            Kelsey :)

So Let's See if I Can Do This

So, it's no secret that I really like to read. Like, a lot. A lot, a lot. So, now that we've established that, I'd like to tell you something interesting. A few years ago, I challenged myself, to see if I could read twenty-five books in one summer, which I believe was the summer of 2011, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I've decided, since I'm too young to get a job this summer, and I won't be doing much, I'll try that challenge again. Only this time, with more books. So this summer, I'm going to see if I can read forty books by the end of August. If I succeed? I shall write a nifty little post on here about all of the books I read. I won't give you little opinions about all of them because, let's face it, nobody wants to read a list of what I thought about forty books. That would just take a lot of time.

Now, if anyone would like to participate, you're welcome to. I think this will be a great summer full of lots of adventure, through stories of course :)

Why, hello, beautiful people!

Hello there, people of the blogging world (or not from the blogging world),

I'm BACK! From camp. I'm exhausted, but I learned so much. I learned a lot about leadership (because, you know, it's Leadership Camp).

I just wanted to let you know I'm alive :)

  Love you all!
